Industrial Hemp

The first reports of hemp being grown in Missouri as a crop date back to 1835, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Peak production in Missouri occurred from the mid- to late-19th century. Following the Controlled Substance Act of 1970, all cannabis — industrial hemp and marijuana — was illegal to produce. However, with recent legislation from federal farm bills and the Missouri legislature, Missouri now allows commercial industrial hemp cultivation.

This page details resources and educational opportunities useful to agricultural producers and others concerning Missouri’s opportunity to reposition itself in the U.S. industrial hemp industry.
